These are the full, expanded threads from the preserved GameFAQs threads. I had to exercise some wicked Perl voodoo to extract the actual text, bad HTML and all, from the archives provided by RockMFR 5 (and DistantSpring54), and patch up the code so it's valid. We couldn't preserve the links to the author name or message detail because they don't seem to work anymore.

nice one DS54! But i have a question. For the Ban a Random User, does it ACTUALLY ban them? just curious.
No, it doesn't REALLY ban them. It's a play off of the "PIE" button that moderators are supposed to have. Someone "made" a PIE button on their own site and posted a link to it on another board that I happen to frequent. There are several such spin-off buttons, and I'm sure the user list of mine is much smaller than theirs. I put most of the frequenters on the Pikmin board onto the Random Ban user list.

What are Ferret's and JimiThingR's scores? I really don't want to go through the entire archives again.

In other news, I managed a 298 and 304 using my new FN strat, so it shouldn't be long now...

There was not one death on this entire run and I did it faster then usual. Though I was very unlucky with the frogs. Only 3 out of the eight I killed dropped blue 5's and 3 5's got misfiled. I also misfiled a 1 pellet making the max for my strat 594.

I am going to try to add 2 dwarf bulborbs a frog and a red ten to my strat. To do this I am going to need a ton of luck with the frogs dropping blue 5's since I will have no time at the end to sort them into the right onion. I will also need to go extremely fast to pull this off, but it can be done. I will break 600. I will not stop until I do.

I know it's true... He beat me in the competition held by Nintendo in Norway.. You can probably find his score somewhere in the hi-score section at www.nintendo.no

He had to send them a picture to verify it.. Dunno if he still has that picture though.

But.. rules are rules.. he still needs to show you guys a picture right?

This run should have been 600 if it weren't for one mistake. At the end I called the blues off of the red 10 to replace them with reds. Time was running out so I quickly threw 6 reds and then swarmed the 10 with blues. All the reds did not get on though because it went to the blue onion.

New high-score and new strategy. Well... much of it "borrowed" from mikepharveys run. :)

I got everything but two blue 5s and the yellow 10 from BLL's lair in. One of the blue 5s was inches from the beam. I also misfiled a 5 pellet from the Breadbug at the very first stage of the level.

My modest contribution:

FN - 472
Combined Total - 2200

I finally got those elusive two points to reach 220. This was a nice run, got way ahead early so a few minor time wasters at the end didn't matter. Maybe now I can go for 480...

Hi guys! I realized that I forgot to come by and talk about Pikmin 2. I got a fairly good look at it at E3, and I think I can tell you some things that you'll find interesting. The mainstream media ignores gameplay details; they're not challenge-oriented like us. ;)

The BIGGEST change, IMO, is that you now have a partner. You probably knew this already. But do you know what you can do with him? You can leave him in a different area at any time - and SWITCH to him with a button press! In effect, you can have a presence in two places at once, as long as you're only doing things with one at a time! This is going to make optimal strategies INSANE... imagine, for instance, venturing out with Olimar, while you keep your partner at the base to sort pellets as they come in... or many other crazy possibilities that I'm sure we'll figure out in time.

Also, Olimar now carries various "powders" that you can scatter. You can see the count of these powders in some screenshots; they come in various colours. To gather them, you just need to harvest berries (which regenerate indefinitely) from a certain type of flower, by having Pikmin bring them back to your ship. 10 berries = one new use of powder. One type of powder (red) makes your Pikmin stronger for a minute or so. Another (purple) petrifies enemies, allowing you to kill them without retaliation (though they disintegrate when you kill them, giving you no booty; however, I think you can WEAKEN them in this state and kill them after they recover from stoning). Those were the only two I saw demonstrated.

Black and White Pikmin were not playable at E3. However, I asked about their abilities, and the answer was just that they're "fast" and "slow". I think one is slow but strong, and the other can carry things quickly. I may be wrong, though; this is secondhand. And as you may know, there's now electricity, which only Yellow Pikmin are immune to. I lost quite a few Pikmin when I tried to knock down an electrified fence. :)

Another weird thing: There were "holes" on the levels that you could enter. You go down into a subterranean level with all the Pikmin that are following you. It's very odd how this works, and I'm not sure if it'll change for the final version. Your time limit when underground disappears; your only limit is that you've only got as many Pikmin as you brought in. You just need to go around gathering treasures without losing all your Pikmin. Shouldn't be too hard for us veterans. :) Oh, and there are multiple levels of depth; I'm not sure how deep you can go. I hope this isn't how it works in the final game; it almost seems to break up the flow of the normal level. In fact, it's possible the underground levels are randomly generated, which is also a bit silly.

The most disturbing thing is... I asked if Pikmin 2 had a Challenge mode, and apparently they are "undecided"! Aaaaaaaaagh. They'd better put one in. Challenge mode is the SOLE reason the original Pikmin was so great, considering how ridiculously short it was. :(

No challenge mode???!!! That's insane!

Someone should forward a copy of the Challenge Mode Scores archive to the production team to show them just how essential the Challenge Mode is. I mean, sure, I bought Pikmin for the main game, not even knowing that there was a Challenge Mode. But the fact remains that it is the Challenge Mode that has given me the most entertainment and is the only reason why I keep coming back to the game.

Another 600+ runs just slipped through my fingers. Everything went perfect until the end. I swiched the frog pellets and the red 10 to the right colors and though for sure I was going to get 600+. Then I saw my score was 577 and I though what the heck I know I should have more than that. So then I looked at the blue onion and saw a bulborb, frog and 5 were jammed. I ran over and swarmed everything like mad but only the 5 got in and I ended up with a 582. It should have been a 602. I cant take not breaking 600 much longer

For the first time in a long time I have two new highs to report. First:

FN ö 482

I had a feeling I would hit this before reaching 480. Iāve had several attempts at 480 since reaching 470 awhile ago, and at least half of them I misfiled the yellow 10 at the beginning. It seems like the knocking the wall down with two less pikmin takes just enough extra time that I canāt catch that pellet. Anyway, this run was far from perfect, but I stayed on pace. At the end a yellow 5 and blue 5 just got in and as the screen changed I saw my score was 470. My heart dropped, I thought I missed a 1 pellet somewhere, but it must have been that the red 20 or yellow 10 hadnāt finished counting up. Thanks must go out once again to Mike, this was his strat. And I guess the notable thing here is that FN can be perfected on NTSC systems.

Thinking I might have lightning in a bottle, I immediately turned to DS. With my heart still racing, I got a 574. Runs of 573, 578, and 584 would follow until:

DS ö 587
Combined Total ö 2215

I just used the same strat I used to get 582 and added a frog. I misfiled a 10 and a five and had a handful of deaths, so I think I can break 590 with this.

Actually, I have a third personal best to report: 9 MDās on one frog. Not so proud of that one·

Excellent news Rogue, i feel better knowing that 482 is achievable on a NTSC system. Most of the strat was yours anyway, i just adapted it here and there to try and save time and get extra pellets. You must have overtook Nathan now and captured second place, well done.

You better take your time getting 620+ on distant spring:P

Once again congratulations.

Posted by SuperStein - 6/5/2003 12:24:08 PM

Congrats Rouge! Truly an (actually, two) amazing feat(s). I've had a few goes on FN aswell. Using Mike's strat of course. I can't seem to be as quick as he. At the mid-day ring my best time is like 10-15 seconds behind Mike's. And from there and out I keep losing several seconds. At the last ring I'm at least 20-30 seconds behind, and I haven't dared to try timing the hurry up warning.

I had a good run now though. Got 455, and a blue 5 and a yellow 5 were inches from their beam. I had to leave the yellow 10 behind the wall, I just wont make it in with a mere 10 Pikmin hauling it towards the onion. I had to leave a blue 5 behind as well. If I just had a couple of extra seconds in the end, I would have scored a 465.

Congrats again, Rouge, really impressive.

I have finally broke 600!

Distant Spring 610
Combined Total - 2186

This run was actually rather disappointing, I mean sure I am very happy I broke 600 but I made some stupid mistakes and could have done better.

My first big mistake was putting 8 pikmin on a on a frog and thinking one pikmin extra on a frog won't make a difference. Then when I grabbed everything but a frog I found I only had 6 pikmin left. so I had to leave the frog which would have got me a 618. Besides that I wasted more time in areas than needed and the run was overall sloppy. So I know I can do a lot better.

Congratulations cocoapuffs! I hope you are going for an even better score.

DS54, you forgot to switch Nathans and Rogues names around in the latest scoreboard, otherwise i think its correct.

Distant Spring 611
Combined Total - 2187

A improvement of one.Lost 8 off of misfiling and had 6 deaths (4 MD's and 2 got eaten by the pearly clam). This score should have been higher but I got unlucky with misfiling. First I threw 7 reds and then 6 blues on a red 10 and somehow it went to the blue onion. Then a yellow 5 from the puffy blowhog fell into the water so I had to misfile it and at the end I didn't think I had enough time to take the blues off a red 5 and replace with reds so I let it go to the red onion but I indeed did have enough time.

So Mike beware your record may not be safe for much longer!
