yay, after trying new strategies(3 different
strategies all got me 541 exactly)i have finally broken my distant
spring score by 13 and got 554...i thought it was a lousy run cause
i had a bunch of deaths(3 bulborb and like 10 by those evil frogs
plus some MDs) and i had to go to the side of the level with the
bridge 3 times to clean up pellets and carcasses, but my getting the
water early instead of at the end must have changed my strategy for
the better, the only way i can see of improving this strategy is by
getting fewer deaths and by maybe getting mamuta, and i finally gave
up on that red 10 in the water, no good ever came out of that thing
so i avoided it

now that i finished my goal of getting a better distant
spring, i'm gonna try and get my total over 2100, but its hard for
me to get any perfects, i always seem to have a few deaths from

This was a pretty good run, only three deaths and
mamuta only pounded eight guys into the ground. I missed a 1 pellet
completely and misfiled a 5, both because I was sloppy, so that
kinda hurts. I think with patience and a little tweak I can push
this over 570...
Mike, what a scoreboard. I think your fifth
place scores would still beat my top total by 100+. As always, you
stink. I'm trying to match your five 278's, I got my fourth one last
night. Still pluggin'...

Out of 8 wollywogs I got five blues 5s and three
yellow 5s.
The yellow 5s were on land, the blues were in the
water!How lucky am I? But one of the yellow 5s didn't make it in,
and a two small bears/borbs (I mix the names :P) didn't make it in
either. Still, the Mamuta is excluded from my strat. So if I can get
him in, and everything else. I'd might get a score around 570-575!

There seems to be several assaults on ds going
on, congrats to XquietusX, Rogue and Stein for their new scores.
Ferrets previously unbeatable score seems to be getting chased down
at the moment by a lot of people. Keep at it guys. A bit of lively
competiton should stop this thread dying off.

First, my new score:

I'm so angry right now, this
was a very good run! I even got the Mamuta in, I thought,
well, you know the ending of Rouge7 442 FN video? Well, the Mamuta
went in exactly in that style. Bumped itself into the onion just as
the screen went black, my current score then was 552. When I was
watching the counting I was very excited wether it got in or not.
Well, the counter got past 552 all right, but stopped at 554, it
only counted 2 Pikmin for my Mamuta! It should have been 15!!!! That
would have made my score higher than Rouge's!! I would have gotten
567!! Ough.. no more Pikmin for me to night.. definetly power off!
For the record: I HATE THE COUNTING SYSTEM!!!

I got everything in!!! Even the Mamuta, using
robs strat. If I have time in the end... KILL IT!! Cause then it
wont matter if he slam-dunks someone into the ground, thanks rob..
he did pund 40 or so Pikmin though... :) But I got him in with 10
just appearing on the screen! Made some nice fireworks as well!
Ahh.. Just 7 off the #3 spot, Ferret.. man.. I've almost hunted down
his godly score of 582.
WOW..! Something just struck me..
I've set a new personal record for grown Pikmin in one day! I've
beaten my FoH 569. Ahhh... what a great game!

Congratulations Stein. I have no doubt that you
will beat ferrets score soon, and make an assault for 600 soon. You
are also nearing the 2200 mark as well. I am starting to feel a bit
uneasy with more and more people approaching my top scores.
I
havent played pikmin for quite a while now, but i will probably play
it more soon as i am starting to get a bit bored of vice
city.

Thanks guys! Appreciate it. I think I've
maxxxxed my strat though, apart from 3-4 MDs that is. But if I can
crank up the speed a notch a think I can get in one more Wollywog
and a 5 pellet. Which would give me 13 more sprouted Pikmin, I know
I can get a 1 pellet more as well. Wich will give me an additionall
2 more Pikmin. I have no clue about how to crank the score
above 600.. that seems very difficult. That means bringing in
at least a 10 pellet. Or some carcasses. Perhaps I should try to get
the Fiery Blowhogs on the Massage Machine beach? However, I'm quite
proud of pulling this off with my very own strat. Maybe I'll write
it down someday. Then you guys could give me a pointer or
two.
600... how can it be done.. I'm 25 away from it.. but I
wont give up. A
Rouge: I wont allow you to stop playing, I
need someone to push me. Like TomatoMan did. He has to get his cube
back ASAP!
However, I'm really looking forward to try your
482 strat for FN mike! That will surely be
frustrating!

I CANNOT BEAT FoH 415! I've tried several
different strategies, all of which gave me a score around 350-360. I
also can't remember what I did to get 415.

Congrats Stein, and glad the Mamuta tip helped
you out.
It's true that now that Mike's stopped pushing the
envelope, Nathan's gone into temporary retirement, TomatoMan's been
parted from his cube, and Ahlyis is up to I-know-not-what there
isn't much action towards the top of the list. Congrats to all the
newer members who've been posting their improvements -- at least
there are a few battles going on for some of the lower places in the
top 20s. Anyway, here's my latest contribution:

At last. Finally got the sans-FlintBeetle perfect!
I'm even considering tackling that bloody bug and pushing my score
up a couple, seeing that in the above run I accidentally triggered
the beetle and was having a hell of a time keeping my pikmin in line
while I charged the ramp. Plus in a couple of the lead-up runs in
which I misfiled a pellet or missed one, I regularly finished around
the start of the countdown. There's time there to hit that beetle a
couple of times at least, I'm sure of it.
Now, I propose that
the top20s be updated (I'd like to see my name back on some of the
lists before it's pushed off again). I'll do it if none of the
veterans will, but I'll leave it for a day to give someone more
worthy the chance.

Well, there we have it -- I hope I haven't made
any mistakes here :P I've removed the asterisks from Mike's scores.
There have been a few new claims to perfect (or top three) scores,
which I have decided to asterisk irrespective of how well known and
revered the claimants are, since I don't feel that I have the
authority to give graces. Apologies if I missed any posted evidence,
and -- indeed -- if I missed any scores. Please remember always to
post high scores, including combined scores, in bold.
I had to do a bit of adding up in my head in order to up-date the
combined totals list, but might I suggest that from now on the onus
is on the claimant to post in bold changes to his or her combined
total?
There's been a surprising amount of movement,
especially in Distant Spring and in the Combined Totals. A few of
(but not all) the casualties to be noted include Ice Man, who was
kicked off no less than three (3) top 20 lists, and Grenade Guzzler,
who has just been edged out of the top ten combined totals. And
there's been a rush of new competitors lately (giving me some
competition, at least, if no one else). Welcome all, and keep
posting those scores. :-)

even though i'm the only one listed there who has no perfect
scores

I wont complain.. but my Total Combined score isn't 2071... it's
2171 :) no biggie!
Ferret: The new vids aren't up yet. We're
still holding our breath for the FN - 482 and DS - 620. But beware
Ferret.. I'm closing in on your record! You can just might be pushed
of the top 3.. so I suggest you restart your Pikmining!
On
another note. I had totally to take a pic of my FN - 452! But I
think I'll wait until I've conquered my next top three.

Thanks for the update rob, and that is correct,
I have 562 on DS but only 452 on FN. My combined total is
correct.
Haven't been able to play much at all the last
couple days and when I do, I always have some sort of catastrophe.
My last run, I was making incredible time, only one MD, killed
mamuta without a single pikmin getting pounded into the ground and
then promptly let a frog squash 25 of my guys. I'm still fuming over
that one...

Rogue, i know how you feel, distant spring is
one cruel level. I could go days without a decent run and then i
could get 3 in a row. Keep sticking at it and you will get some
reward for your efforts.
Ferret, your score on distant spring
will always be remembered as one of the greatest accomplishments on
pikmin. Any thoughts on trying to beat it? Also, i would love to
hear your strategy.

Well, I just tried Distant Spring... I was doing
well.. ahead of schedule. However, when I killed a wollywog..
everything going fine,i withdraw all of my Pikmin from the fight..
and run away (i pick up the carcass later on). BOOM 11 MDs! That's a
new record for me! 11 MDs on one wollywog.. I have higher MD record
on a puffstool.. but a wollywog! Wow!

Hey guys, just thought I'd drop in. Actually,
I've been keeping track of the posts all this time, but I haven't
really felt the need to say anything. :) It's rather incredible how
you guys have been pounding the game into a bloody pulp. I'm awed by
the 482 in Forest Navel... I never thought that it would be humanly
possible.
Ahlyis: You were wondering why I had 439 in FN. My
strat was for 442, but it was extremely extremely tight, and it took
several hours before I actually succeeded once (imperfectly) with
it. I misfiled one pellet, and lost 2 somewhere else... not sure
where. (Maybe the pearl? I didn't usually lose Pikmin there, but
accidents happen) Since nobody else was even past 400, I really
didn't feel like spending even more hours getting a perfect 442 run.
:) Clearly you've all found much better strategies than me now. Oh
well.
TomatoMan: You realize that all my high-score runs are
on the tape you have? Not just FoH. So if you WANTED to, you could
use my FT 299. But sure, variety is good. :) I'm just glad I'll end
up with SOME representation on the DVD... thank goodness for maxed
scores! You could also look at my FN strat if you're curious, but
that's pretty useless by now.
Well, 4 levels are completely
done with now, and Distant Spring will clearly never be maxed. So
Pikmin has pretty much been conquered. Way to go, guys! On to Pikmin
2! I'm definitely not going to be any competition in Pikmin 2, since
I'll be so out of practice... :( Just like Super Monkey Ball and its
sequel... arg.

A-hem, sorry for the
stuff-ups, guys (and so many of them, too -- sheesh!). Well at least
with the mess up on Stein's combined, it's fairly obvious that I've
just mis-keyed a number. And with the mistake on Rogue's FN score,
the answer is simple: time, Rogue, for you to hit FN and score a
462! ;-) Meanwhile, I'll post in bold for the next

I have a strange feeling that 620 won't be
standing for long...
I'm not going to be the one to beat it, what
with my wonderful 315 in DS. I might beat it in something like
Challenge Mode Scores version 9 (posts 4001-4500)...

reminds me, I need to play Pikmin. That "01/22/03" on my sig is
starting to bother me... no new records in almost a
week.

How the heck do you fight fiery blowhogs with
only blue pikmin?
I can't speak for Ferret, but I can
tell you how I do it. For the one beyond the red onion, I just use
reds since I take it on early in the run. For the two over by the
pearl across the bridge I do the following:
Take 50+ blues up
to the blowhog. Toss one on and whistle him off as the blowhog goes
to buck him off. C-stick all Pikmin into the blowhog. Whistle them
of about 1.5 seconds before the blowhog bucks. C-stick them back on.
If done right about 50 blues can kill the blowhog in just two
attacks.
If you have fewer blues, or mostly leaf Pikmin, you
may need three attacks to finish one off.

finally beat one of my high scores on final
trial but have been spending most of my time playing forest of hope
and its getting really frustrating as i know i've cleared everything
in the stage with my previous high, but don't remember my strategy(i
never stick with one, as i like trying new ways, but can't even find
a good variation on it)and can't even get close anymore, taking a
break off that level for a while, but i don't think i could beat any
of my scores on the other levels now

Like a lot of runs on this board, this was a, "just
one more try before I go to sleep". Glad I stayed up. The run just
before this was a 547 where mamuta pounded like 40 guys so I didn't
have time to get the last frog and pellet in or try correct any of
the red and yellow pellets, but I knew I was close. Mike, this was
just like you said, lots of bad runs and then two good ones in a
row.
Ahlyis, thanks for the tip. The current max for my strat
is 575, so if I want to go any higher I have to go after those fiery
blowhogs or change things a lot.

Thanx ahlyis, i always left the fiery blowhogs
by the pearl alone as i always thought i had to fight them with
reds, and i dont have time at the end to get reds out to kill
them.
I may have to restart my pikmining and try to add at least
one to my strategy. The only problem is finding 7 pikmin to carry
one back.

No new highs, but I got my fifth IS 278 this
weekend to go with the five 569's and 299's. If I ever crack the top
three on DS it will make for a nice pic. My fiance happened to be
over when I got this, and could not grasp the gravity of the
accomplishment. I nearly called everything off...

Distantspring54, just break the pearl free and
put 5 or 6 pikmin on it. This means the pearl will be travelling
fast enough so as not to get flamed. This works 95% of the time, as

This came a few runs after a 567 where I had a clean
run going all the way to the last pearl, the fiery blowhogs one. I
always put four guys on it knowing that every once in awhile the
blowhogs will fry them. Sure enough, this was one of those times.
Having to go back for that pearl made me misfile a 5 and miss a 5
entirely, which would have put me back ahead of SuperStein. Instead
I'm one agonizing point behind...
Not much room left and I
haven't heard from Nathan so I'll go ahead and start the next
thread.

Ah, I haven't played much since I was sucked
