counterstrike...
FN - 405
I tweaked my 401 strat to be
able to get the two flowers in the puffstool area, and then had a
nice run. I was right where I needed at noon and then the final part
went so smooth I had everything in with 4 ticks to spare. I think I
can up this to 410, but I would need a similar run mixed with some
luck.

Now here's the preemptive strike...

This run was sweet. I have found that the only way I can
have a chance at getting the last three 20's in on time is if I'm
putting my 10 yellows on the bridge to the pearl at noon. This run I
was all the way to the red 20 when the noon bell went off, so that
enabled me to easily get the extra 5 pellet in.
blackmage, I
don't know how much I have left in the tank. There are two 5's still
out there and a blue 1, that would make 422, but I don't see how to
get them yet...

Dang it, it always seems like as soon as I find
a high score rankings thing for a game I have, it has already been
going on forever.
It happened to me with Home-Run Contest on
Super Smash Bros Melee, with Super Monkey Ball, and now with Pikmin.
I'm just too slow to keep up ^ . ^

Sotek252, don't be discouraged. The leader board
was expanded to a top 15 just recently. I would post some
scores...
blackmage200, I've been working on 420 for FN. I
know it can be done because I had a 405 run with a fairly big
mistake in it and still had three 5's all at least in the onion
area. Have you made any progress?
Everyone else, where are
you? What's going on with the DVD, challenge mode walkthrough,
etc...

Ok, I only have 2 scores that make the top15
right now. These are according to the last update so I'm not sure if
they are still records or not.
Forest Naval - 172
===== 15th place
Distant Spring - 215 ===== 14th
place
All the other levels I don't have really good scores on
right now.

I just found out there is a Pearl in Distant
Springs so I had to go and get it. And of course, I also had to post
my new score too...
Distant Springs - 259 ===== 12th

By the way, does anybody know of a site that has some
medium difficulty strats for Challenge Mode? I don't want to try the
really hard ones that get posted quite yet.

DVD update!
SnapDragon is sending me his
FoH and FN runs, both of which contain the high scores for those
levels (so far: FoH is maxxed, and FN probably isn't max-able but
Snap is still a long way ahead of anyone else).
Ferret, if
you're out there, your 582 seems to be the high-water mark for DS.
If you think that's it, any chance you could mail me the tape? I can
send it back after I rip it.
I just ordered a 25-pack of
DVD-Rs for about $50 shipped, about $2 each. That's low enough that
I can start monkeying with it and not feel too bad if I burn a few
coasters while I learn.
Progress will be slow - it's probably
a couple of months from being real, but I am planning to go
ahead with it, and if it all works, I'll be happy to make copies for
people who want them. Looks like media and postage costs will come
to $5 or less, so figure somewhere around there for people who just
want me to burn a copy and mail it to them. If I get bazillions of
requests, I might have to ask some other folks to get their copies
and then help out with burning further copies.

Finally...
FN - 420
It seems like
I have to have a "learn a lesson" run before I can hit my goals on
this level. This time, I had a 414 run that was nice, but I ran out
of blues at the end and in my panic I flat out forgot to get the
last blue 5 and was unable to find the blue 1 that I just put a red
on until it was too late (that's why it was 414 instead of the nice
round 415). The lesson was I needed to get the blue 10 moving before
the yellow 20 in the puffstool area. I made this change and when I
was ready for the final blues, the blue 10 was back and I used those
pikmin.
blackmage, I think that's it. All that's left is that
stupid blue 1 near the yellow 10 out behind the first blue 10. There
doesn't seem like a good time to get this, I tried to get it at the
end of the 420 run, but the countdown was down to 4 or so and it had
no chance. Looks like I need a vastly different strat to go any
further...

Just wondering... maybe it would be a guide idea
if some of you veterans could post guides for getting a high Pikmin
count... like each of you taking an area to write a guide for
challenge mode on. It would be a big help to those with less
experience like me. Just an idea.

Razor Leaf, there is a challenge mode walkthrough in the works that Xe123 is organizing, he's still waiting on some submissions. In the meantime, if you want to go back through this board, I know you'll find my walkthrough for FN and a link to Tomatoman's IS walkthrough. I know Ahlyis has one for FT either here or on a similar topic, check something like, "Can somebody make a challenge mode walkthrough". Sotek252 has suggested a medium difficulty walkthrough that I think is a good idea...

I didn't do as
good as I thought I'd be, all blues is my thing, but it's just a bit
tricky, as some times you need yellows. I got one pearl before my
yellows died a horrible, icky, sticky, gruesome death.

I have this on tape
also, and this run was cleaner than the 420 I got on tape. Getting
that last blue 1 proved to be pretty simple once I figured it
out.
The latest leaderboad has some of my scores wrong. I
have a 492 on the Forest of Hope and it is listed under the Distant
Spring, my high for DS is only 464

Shadow Ninja Guy, don't get worried
by not being able to get 300+ on FoH. I couldn't until about a month
ago.
Make sure you're getting 80 odd pikmin to attack with
and make sure you're getting at least 1 pearl of the 2. Keep trying
- i still am.
Rogue7, will your 422 run for FN be available
for download - i really wanna see it.

Lewellyn, my brother runs a website and I've asked him to put my video on it. The other project I want him to help me with is making a copy of the 422 & 420 runs with audio commentary (the 420 is more interesting because I make a lot of little mistakes). If you want, e-mail me your address and when I get a regular copy I can mail it to you...
