Another new high for me... 400 exactly on Distant Spring. All of the practice on the other levels has helped me improve on the smallest things, which can greatly increase pikmin numbers.

Well, when we get to 500, Snapdragon should make the new topic. If he isn't checking regularly enough, then Tomatoman should create the new topic. That's my opinion anyway.

As for Challenge mode, I really need to get used to using bombs against enemies. Especially the Clamclamps. I can swarm and kill Bulbears and Bulborbs fast enough without bombs, but I lose a lot of time fighting Clamclamps the slow way!

I use bombs on both ClamClamps in FoH, but still can only get 386. However, I also use bombs to kill the Bulborbs/Bulbears that guard the pearls, which probably takes too much time. *sigh*. Strategy revision...

I'll just stop playing Pikmin, hoping and failing to actually even get spot 15. Everyone just zoomed by too fast, and I'm left to eat the dust. The strats don't help, I can't multitask and accomplish everything as quickly as they can.

It just occurred to me that I never posted my scores for FN and DS. Probably because we were only doing a top-5 when I played those levels and I was too far off the top 5 to ever think about placing. :) I think they'll squeeze on to the top 15, though, so now that I'm reunited with my Cube I'll repost my scores.

PS. Played an Impact Site run last night just for giggles. Only got 1 from the flint beetle but was doing fine otherwise so I just pressed on for practice. It went well until I threw six yellows into the water. I quit and went to bed. :P

Improvement on Distant Spring: 363.

So infuriating, though: I had a large red bug (I don't know all their names) carried by pikmin of all colours passing into the onion area during the countdown -- it passes under the red onion, and I'm thinking "yes, it's gonna make it"; it keeps going on to the yellow onion, and I'm thinking "ooohh it can still make it"; then it swerves towards the blue onion and the countdown hits zero. :P

Heh, I did something similar with FT last night Tomatoman. I played through and got a 298. I'm thinking about playing it until I fill the scores with 299s.

But here are two other scores which I have improved, even if just a little.

Bittersweet new high:

FN - 437

Sweet because it is a new high and I've been toiling to improve from 422 for a long time.

Bitter because I did not get this on tape (it was my first run yesterday and figured there was no way...) and I got everything in when the countdown was only at 2. If I had any stones I could've gone for 442, but I played it safe.

Anyway, nice to be back in second. I'm gonna go hardcore tonight for 442, no promises though...

Ahlyis: you're insane! :) If you do a 299 that you like better than the one we did, fling another tape at me.

Rouge7: tape EVERYTHING! :) If you tape a run over 439, you'll have the high score and we'll put ya on the DVD!

Going offline for a couple days and waiting for Mario on the beach... it was supposed to be here today, I thought, but the retailers around here are saying tomorrow. Thpt. :P

I'm fairly happy with the tape already done. It had some minor mistakes, but nothing that got any Pikmin killed. and I finished with tons of time left. So I doubt seriously I'll bother taping any runs. I'm just thinking about filling the scores with 299s for the personal satisfaction, nothing more.

Played a ton last night, but to no avail. I did have two 422 runs where the last red 20 was just making the turn from the center to the red onion. Those were painful watch, but I feel I learned a few things from those runs and I might be pretty close...

TomatoMan, you'll be happy to know that both failures were caught on tape for me to relive, and I'm keeping the VCR rolling on all runs.

FN - 313
I tried the 422 walkthrough, sort of. Ended up with the 313. I can do better, but FoH has captured my interest right now. Speaking of which...

FoH - 495
I played for hours last night and kept getting between 295 and 430. Over and over and over. I tried tweaking my pattern, but nothing seemed to make any difference. And I couldn't figure out why either. Finally, I decided to try a run completely ignoring the two bridges to the yellow 20 and red 5. I also ignored (as I usually do) the blue 10 on the ledge guarded by the Bulbear and all the dwarfs. I skipped that entire area. I did get the stuff in the water near the yellow 20 though.

So what effect did just dropping the yellow 20 and red 5 from my pattern have? I immediately got 495! I cleared the entire level other than those 2 areas. Only a 65 Pikmin improvement! And I still can't figure out why it had so great an effect. It really doesn't take THAT much time to prepare the bridges then go grab the pellets later. I just don't get it.

Oh well. I'm gonna keep working on FoH. I'm sure I can work in the yellow 20 and red 5, though getting the blue 10 and all the dwarfs is still out of reach.

Secrano, no. You only need to post a screenshot or give a detailed walkthrough if you are claiming one of the top 3 or so spots. In general, this is just a friendly board. We'll believe you unless you start posting outrageous scores. At which point we'll ask that you provide some sort of proof.

But go ahead and post your scores. Even if they don't make the top 15, post em anyway. It's nice to see your scores now and then watch as they get better and better until eventually you DO make the top 15. We've had a few people do that recently. And congrats to them!

FoH - 510 WooHoo. Into the 500 club I leap! :-)

Well, I played some more last night and am getting closer and closer :-) I managed to clear the level except for the 4 dwarf borbs, the Bear and the yellow 20. I did get the 10 on the ledge behind the dwarfs and the bear by just running past them (I was short on time). And I almost got the yellow 20. It was in the middle of the landing site when time expired. Another 2 ticks on the clock and I woulda had 530.

Sorry TomatoMan, looks like I beat you by just one again, similar to FN. But don't worry, I'll increase that soon :-)

FINALLY got 273 on IS (using TomatoMan's strategy). Will not rest until I get that 278 though! Any tips for dealing with the flint beetle? Playing the first half day over and over for the occasional shot at the 278 is starting to bug.

Don't take this personal cork, but I'd like a screenshot or something please before we add you to the top score list. You haven't posted any scores prior to this and to simply come in and claim a tie for second place is asking a bit much on faith. It's not that I don't believe you. I just don't think it would be fair to those here who have sweated and toiled and posted their progress if we simply let anyone post a top score out of the blue without some form of verification.

My trials have led me to this:

FN - 441

I changed my strat a little to get some pellets at the end moving faster, but it meant I had to attack the pearl with one less pikmin. I've struggled with this (mostly because it's new) but it has helped me time wise. This run would have been a "perfect" 442, except for losing a pikmin to a clam bite. One just got caught behind the pearl. I feel I can't retire from this level yet, in fact, it really bugs me that this wasn't a 442...

I tweaked my method a bit, but this time at the end I was losing a bit more than usual, and got a little cowardly(I went more for the pellets instead of the carcasses at the end)

DS improvement: 375

I think I'm going to have to develop a new strategy, though, since I can only improve on that score by 1 big red bug, and 1 red 10 pellet. I could possibly break 400, but only with a perfect run on the strategy.

If I get time Xel23, I'll write up my strat for the FAQ -- but you'll probably have to grade it as easy, given how pathetic my top scores are compared to everyone else's!

I knew I was either going to get this or carpal tunnel's. In comparison to two 441 runs I had, this was a sloppy run, but it got the high and I can now retire from this level and work on the other four.

Awesome Rouge7! That makes four of the five fully completed now with only DS remaining untamed. Given the size of DS, I'm sure it will never be tamed either.

That DVD should be pretty awesome now. We'll have perfect runs on four levels from four different people and a mega DS run from a fifth!

Geez, I get back from vacation to find another perfecto! Congratulations, Rouge7!

Now, is the 442 really a complete perfect score? You got everything? Or are there some out of reach that you know you just can't get? I suck at FN so I can't even imagine such a run.

Please do send on the tape and you'll be on the DVD! My email is <tm@tomatoman.net>. Now we just need to get Ferret to send me his DS tape and we'll be ready to get started!

Congrats too to cocoapuffs and cork for their 273s on IS. Feels great, doesn't it? :)

Secrano, nothing is needed to post your scores. We all know what's possible on the levels so we can sniff out fakes pretty easily. Screenshots for very high scores always help if you have the means and you want everyone to believe you. :) A digital snap of your TV with the scores showing, and a napkin with your GameFaqs name in big letters taped to the TV, has been a favorite method of verification for many folks.

And Ahlyis: curse you! :) Sneaking past me by nibbles on those levels. Dang it! :)

Thanks, TomatoMan, I've sent you an e-mail asking for an address to send the tape to.

442 is a theoretical max. There are two 10's and one 20 left, but it is my opinion that they are too far out and require too much work to get inside the time limit. I feel very confident that this is the highest you can go and I would think that SnapDragon would agree that higher is not possible. Anyway, I'll get a tape to you as soon as possible.

Most of us seem to have one or two levels we're good at and junk on the others. Look at the top 15, only SnapDragon is at the top on all of them. TomatoMan is awesome at IS, but not so good yet elsewhere. I'm tops only on Final Trial. I have (relatively) low scores on all the rest, though I'm working on Forest of Hope.
