These are the full, expanded threads from the preserved GameFAQs threads. Yes, I actually do have 6 LESS than what you start with. How I screwed that up so much I don't know. Don't bother even asking :)

Picked up Tetris Worlds last week and that has cut into my Pikmin time, but I'm still trying to creep up the standings. Tried Final Trial with killing Beady Long Legs instead of the snagret, but always ran out of time before I could even start towards the Blue 20 and the best I could get was 213, well below my scores without BLL. I'll figure it out sooner or later...

New high last night:

DS - 401

Very happy to finally break 400, but when I was breaking the third pearl I whistled back my blues a second early and it only had a sliver of strength left. At the time I thought, "I wonder if that will make a difference". Sure enough, said pearl was at the center of the 3 onions when time ran out...

Posted by Ahlyis - 7/10/2002 11:29:38 AM

Ok, for the sake of filling the boards, I pulled out Pikmin last night and played a few rounds just to have a score for each level.

Here are my top scores:
IS - 191 (yes, I was wrong when I reported 196 before. It's actually 191)
FoH - 407
FN - 286
DS - 336
FT - 299

I kind of liked FoH once I started playing it. If I do decide to play Pikmin any more, it will likely be on FoH, Challenge mode.

Looks like I previewed, but forgot to actually POST, my response on the "is the DVD dead?" question. :)

The DVD ain't dead, as a concept, but we're waiting for Snap to reappear and offer up his vids (unless someone else wants to match/beat his scores and tape their runs), and for Ferret to either (a) get 600 on DS or (b) declare it ain't happening and send me what he's got. :)

Posted by Ahlyis - 7/12/2002 1:05:31 PM

Tomatoman,

Well, as I was doing FoH, I got the feeling that there was a pattern there for me. My problems with DS and FN is I don't get the feel for any pattern. It's all too haphazard. I had thought FoH was the same in the past. That's why I only ever worked on FT. I could feel a pattern to FT.

Since, I started to feel a pattern for FoH, I may go back and work on it. I've still got plenty of other games I'm playing though, so it may not happen.

I only mention this because I might be able to produce a tape for you of FoH if Snap never produces the goods. :-)

Ok, I have a problem. I decided that I have gotten as far as possible in the forest naval with only a general strategy. I'm trying to get a specific strategy that I can refer to. However, in doing the first part of this strategy, something weird happens. I get an extra 15 pikmin, and so I have to run around balancing my pikmin out. Can anyone figure out where these extra ten is coming from. The strategy for the first part is below. Also, any tips to how to make this better would be appreciated.

First, pick two pikmin, hit the breadbug once and set the two on the pellet he's dragging. Then pick the five red pikmin and put them on the red five. Do the same with the yellows. If you need to knock down one of the yellow flowers. Go back and put the 2 blues on two more 1 pellets. Grab the 5 reds and put them on one of the fives from the breadbug, doesn't matter what color it is. Put the two blues on 2 more 1 pellets, one of which should be on the ledge past the nectar. Pick 5 more reds, and take back the breadbug and the remaining 5 pellet. Go to the yellow onion and have the yellows take back all the yellow 1's. Do the same with the reds. Pick 3 blues, and have them take back the blue 5 on the ledge. Take a bunch of reds and jump off the ledge, and have them take back the 5 and the blue 1. If neither of the 5 pellets from the breadbug was red, then take back the red 1 pellet to the right of the entrance (the entrance by the yellow onion). Take some yellows and blues (at least 5 blues and 6 yellows) and jump of the ledge by the red onion. Get the two fives down by the water, (the blue one is in the water) and the yellow one. Then get at least 10 of each pikmin and get the three 10 pellets (for the yellow get the one that you can get without blues). Then go back and pick all of your pikmin while the tens come back.

If you have the same problem as me, you probably have 85 pikmin right now (you might have 90, I'm not sure whether 85 is before or after the blue 5 gets back). My math says I should have 70. Both the red and the blues have had five 1 pellets (20 total) and two 5 pellets (40 total) and the reds have had four 1 pellets (48 total) plus what they get from the breadbug plus what they got when they jumped off the ledge, which is 17 (65 total) plus a 5 pellet (70 total). I should have 70 pikmin (or 65 if the blue 5 hasn't gotten back yet) when the tens are coming. Can someone try this strategy and tell me where I get these extra pikmin?!

I was walking away from my computer when it hit me that I started with 15 pikmin, which was my problem. Anyway, I would appreciate some constructive criticism of my strategy (or that part of it at least). I will probably take out getting the three 5's that are strung around the border.

Posted by Rouge7 - 7/15/2002 5:10:29 PM

I start the level by picking all five blues and raining them down on the breadbug. Ideally, I hit him twice so that he dies with one bonk on the onion. Two blues grab the pellet he has and two blues grab the other pellet. If I failed to hit him enough I take the extra blue and knock down a blue flower for him to go for after the first bonk. Either way, while he's being dragged to the blue onion I pick the reds and yellows (rotate the camera so you can watch the breadbug). If he drops two 5's of the same color, I just restart because it will throw my ratio off. If he drops two different colors I take them back to the correct onions and the breadbug back to the color onion that didn't fall (I learned this trick from reading TomatoMan's IS walkthrough - thanks, TomatoMan!). After that, if you move quickly to clear out the onion area you will have 67 pikmin - 23,23,21. The three 10's and stray 1's will get you up to 100 pretty quick and then make sure to use the nectar to flower them because the extra speed is necessary to break 300. I think handling the breadbug like that might save you some balancing time.

Posted by AdvanceGamer - 7/15/2002 9:31:29 PM

FN: 303!!! Now I deserve that 7th place!
Heh, I just read Rouge7's comment after I got this. I don't think I'm going to use that, because my beginning is pretty solid (I finish at one to one and a half notches before noon) and I need 30 blues and yellows, and 40 reds. I tried something different, putting just 10 pikmin on each 10 pellet, and bringing what I had down to where the pearl is. Which 20's/10's do you get? I ended up getting about five 20 pellets, missing only the blue in the area where the pearl is, and the yellow 20 where the puffstool is in the normal game. I also got a bunch of 10's, missing the two where the blue 20 I missed is, the red one on the beach, and the yellow 10 in the water that is off of the beach.
It's interesting that as soon as I match your scores (Rouge7) on FN, you beat that score.

By the way, my brother got 336 on FoH. Could you put that up? He doesn't have a GameFAQ's alais, though.

New high:

FN - 358

I think this is the best I can do with my current strategy, because I got everything in just as time expired.

AdvanceGamer, I hope you don't think I'm cheating. Your comment that "It's interesting that as soon as I match your scores (Rouge7) on FN, you beat that score" could be taken that way. Anyway, here's an outline of how I'm doing it now:

-Clear out the onion area as mentioned in previous post, but don't pick everything yet
-Pick enough to get the three 10's, two 5's(blue and yellow), four 1's near the onions plus four extra pikmin for the wall
-Grab the above pellets, put four pikmin on the wall, and return to the onions to pick all the reds
-Put 5 reds on the nearest bridge, 5 reds on the pellet nearby and drop down to get the red 1.
-Check that the reds who built the stick to the red 10 picked it up (sometimes they fall off and don't return to the pellet)
-Return to the onions and pick until everything gets back.
-Balance the pikmin to get 40 blues, 30 reds(5 are at the bridge), 30 yellows.
-Feed your 95 nectar and head towards the 5 reds at the bridge.
-Put five reds on the second bridge, 5 blues each on the two blues and five yellows on the yellow 5 nearby.
-Head towards the red 20 at the beach, putting five reds on the red 5 on the way
-Throw 5 yellows on the bridge that leads to the red 20
-You should have 70 pikmin (30B, 20Y, 20R), so go to the pearl area.
-Put 10 yellows on the bridge to the pearl, and get the Red 20, Yellow 10, Blue 20, Blue 10.
-You shouldn't have any pikmin with you so hit the geyser and go back to the onions and pick up the 10 blues, 5 reds and 5 yellows who were carrying pellets
-Head for the beach, picking up the 5 reds on the second bridge along the way.
-Get the red 10 and yellow 5 on the beach and the blue 10 in the water. Get the yellows by the bridge.
-Return to the pearl and break it, put three yellows on it.
-Return to the onions and let everthing but the pearl get back.
-Take your 97 to the puffstool area, put ten reds on the red 10 on the way, and put all your yellows on the yellow 20 and ten blues on the blue 10.
-Return to the beach and put all your reds on the red 20 and all your blues on the blue 20.
-Return to the onion and as things get back and in, take those pikmin to help what's farthest out

Hope this helps, it only tops out at 360 or so if you can pick up some stray 1's. Have to rework this in order to get the stuff in the beady longlegs area...

It worked!

FN - 401

blackmage200, sorry to one-up you in the same night. I was beginning to think my strat couldn't work after a half dozen tries fell short on time. But I had a run where I was making great time, but then had a brainfart where I let the clamclamp eat 9 pikmin. Just for grins I kept going and got a 342, which if you add those 9 lost and the 50 for the pearl would've gotten me 401. Now I couldn't quit and after something like 15 tries I got the 401. I think there's room to go a little higher with this strat, but I would need to get real lucky...

Posted by Rouge7 - 7/19/2002 9:05:27 AM

Xe123, as promised I have a walkthrough of how I got 401 on Forest Navel. However, I tried to post it and I was over the size limit. So I hope you don't mind I had to do this in two posts. Here's the first half:

-Start off by picking all five blues and raining them down on the breadbug. Ideally, you’ll hit him twice so that he dies with one bonk on the onion. Two blues grab the pellet he has and two blues grab the other pellet. If you failed to hit him enough, take the extra blue and knock down a blue flower for him to go for after the first bonk.
-Either way, while he's being dragged to the blue onion, pick the reds and yellows (rotate the camera so you can watch the breadbug). If he drops two 5's of the same color, just restart because it will throw your ratio off. If he drops two different colors take them back to the correct onions and the breadbug back to the color onion that didn't fall (I learned this trick from reading TomatoMan's IS walkthrough - thanks, TomatoMan!).
-At this point, move quickly to collect the three 5’s and all the 1’s in the onion area.
-Pick 52 pikmin: 17 blue, 17 yellow, 14 red and 4 of any color (I usually pick 2 each of the color pellets the breadbug dropped).
-Go to the flowers behind the red onion and knock them down as 1 red and 1 yellow.
-Put a red on the red 1 first, then a yellow on the yellow 1 so that you’re ready to throw yellows.
-Take a left towards the yellow 10 and get the yellow 1.
-Throw ten yellows over the cliff at the yellow 10 and then throw five yellows over the cliff at the yellow 5.
-Grab a blue and throw it on the blue 1 behind you and then throw five blues on the blue 5 in water near where the yellow 5 was.
-Head past the patch of grass (don’t let any pikmin stop, whistle them if they get distracted) towards the wood wall, throwing a red at the red 1 on the way.
-Throw 12 reds on the stick pile that leads to the red 10. You should have 15 pikmin left after this.
-Put your four “any” pikmin on the wall, but make sure you’re left with 11 blues.
-Throw a blue on the blue 1 near the wall and use the remaining ten blues for the blue 10 in the water nearby.

Posted by Rouge7 - 7/19/2002 9:07:14 AM

And now the second:

-Return to the onions, whistle at least ten yellows (the yellow 10 should’ve just arrived) and pick all the reds.
-Put five reds on the nearest bridge, five reds on the red 5 pellet nearby, but save one (two if you can) and drop down to get the red 1.
-Put ten yellows on the yellow 5 nearby and the rest (if you have any) on the wall.
-Put five reds on the second bridge, try to position yourself so that the pikmin behind you knock the flowers down (not necessary, but might help at the end), but leave the pellets.
-Put 5 blues each on the two blue 5’s and five yellows on the yellow 5 nearby.
-Head towards the red 20 at the beach, putting five reds on the red 5 on the way
-Throw four yellows on the bridge that leads to the red 20 and one yellow on the yellow 1 there.
-You should have 70 pikmin (30B, 20Y, 20R), so go to the pearl area.
-Put 10 yellows on the bridge to the pearl, and get the Red 20, Yellow 10, Blue 20, Blue 10.
-You shouldn't have any pikmin with you so hit the geyser and go back to the onions and pick up the 10 blues, 5 reds and 6 yellows who were carrying pellets
-Head for the beach, picking up the 5 reds on the second bridge along the way.
-Dismiss your pikmin so you can take the ten blues to get the yellow 10 in the water. Get the red 10 with your reds.
-While waiting the four yellows should have finished the bridge, so whistle them and knock down the two flowers in any combination EXCEPT two yellows and leave the pellets.
-When the yellow 10 is on land, whistle the blues and replace them with the ten yellows.
-Put the ten blues on the blue 10 in the water.
-Return to the pearl and break it, put three yellows on it.
-Return to the onions and let everthing but the pearl get back. Use idle pikmin to help.
-Take your 97 to the puffstool area, put five yellows on the yellow 5, five blues on the blue 5 and ten reds on the red 10 on the way.
-Put ten blues on the blue 10 and 20 yellows on the yellow 20. You should have 47 pikmin.
-Return to the beach, picking up the yellow 1, red 1 and two blue 1’s on the way.
-Get the two pellets from the flowers you knocked down earlier (you only have one yellow left, that’s why you couldn’t knock down two yellows before).
-Put reds on the red 20 (you will need to use some blues) to get it going and twenty blues on the blue 20, throwing a blue on the blue 1 in the water on the way. You should be out of pikmin.
-Return to the onion and as things get back and in, take those pikmin to help what's farthest out. If you can, get the two 1’s from the flowers between the two bridges, you need those to have a chance at 401.

Feel free to edit if necessary.
