Basic strategy

All right. The basics are very basic. Move with the arrow keys. Squish the peasants. Avoid the knights and don't get sworded or arrowed!

You advance from level to level by burninating all the cottages. You acheive burnination by squishing 10 peasants. Any time a peasant comes out of his cottage and then gets back inside safely, you lose one squish. While you can never go below zero squishes, there will be plenty of times that you're working hard squishing peasants on one side of the level while they roam freely on the other side of the level, wandering in and out and decrementing your total even as you squish them where you are. Stupid friggin' peasants!

So. Basic strategy is: squish the peasants. Don't get sworded. Burninate the cottages!

You can never kill the knights - they are even immune to burnination (as you will see from the illustrations on the side of the cabinet in the toon). They have shields! You can also not kill the archers that appear on the side, so watch out for them.

The first few levels are easy - a few cottages well-spaced, lots of room to move. Subsequent levels have the cottages arranged with harder placements, which block your motion. The knights aren't impeded by the cottages, though, which gives them an advantage. You have to use your consummate skills to avoid the knights and squish the peasants even with these obstacles - for you fear nothing, you are TROGDOR!!!

When you squish your tenth peasant, you will achieve burnination, which lasts for about 5 seconds. The Burnination Meter across the top of the screen will show you when burnination will run out. When you begin to burninate, you have to quickly run around and burninate everything you can. In most cases you should be able to burninate all of the cottages in one round, but sometimes you'll miss one or two and have to do another round. If this happens, you have to squish ten more peasants to burninate again.

DANGER! You cannot get sworded or arrowed while you are burninating, but if you aren't going to be able to burninate everything, make sure you're clear of knights and archers when burnination wears off, or you will meet an untimely end.

You should be able to get up to 1000 or so points with the basic strategy listed here. Every five levels or so for the first little while you'll get a brief cartoon in the best 1981 Midway tradition. Collect them all!

Stompin' good!
